Combining Whole Health Strategies with Cannabinoid Therapeutics

Addressing systemic diseases like cancer requires systemic interventions, and WHOI has recognized the value of medical cannabis as a multifaceted disease and symptom treatment.

WHOI empowers institutions, clinicians, policymakers, and nonprofits with evidence-based insights into the underutilized field of medical cannabis, applying advanced public health analytics.

Systems Dynamics in Health Data

WHOI focuses on a systems-based Whole Health approach to oncology, and we understand that cancer is the end result of a vast range of variables. To that end we have built one of the largest collections of multidisciplinary health data related to medical cannabis, searching for patterns, relationships, and knowledge discovery.

Patient? Clinician? Scientist? The PROhub is for you.

The Patient Reported Outcomes Hub (PROhub) exists to solve a central challenge in medical and integrative health research: the lack of consistent, high-quality, patient-reported outcome data on medical cannabis that can be analyzed across studies, treatments, and populations. It connects patients, clinicians, and researchers through a single, easy to use platform.

PROhub is a secure, HIPAA-compliant outcomes infrastructure that captures standardized patient-reported outcomes across symptoms, behavioral health, dosing, and quality of life. It’s designed for distributed referral, longitudinal tracking, and scalable analysis.

The future of medical cannabis and whole health alike must integrate evidence and patient experience.

Resources & Services

Analytics & Machine Learning

We have assembled and structured multiple large datasets that rarely exist in one place, covering patient responses, strain-level effects, comorbidities, and treatment context. However, a Whole Health perspective requires cross-referencing and dynamic analysis, so we specialize in building not just datasets, but custom machine learning-powered analytics suites to turn the data into actionable insights.

  • Evidence maps
  • Health impact assessments
  • Mass research sentiment analysis
  • Cross-disciplinary pattern recognition and network analysis

Research

At WHOI, we sit at the nexus of the resources needed for rigorous, data-driven insights in complex health domains. We not only collaborate with top-tier institutions, but publish research of our own, made possible by one of the world’s largest medical cannabis datasets and extensive experience in public health analytics.

Recent projects include:

  • Meta-analysis of medical cannabis outcomes and associations with cancer: the largest meta analysis into medical cannabis ever conducted, this evidence-mapping effort included over 10K peer-reviewed studies. It has since become among the top 1% most-read research papers of the past 30 years.
  • Frontiers in Oncology is publishing a Special Issue on medical cannabis that WHOI will be curating, editing, and managing, incorporating some of the top cannabinoid researchers in the world.

Institute of Cannabis Research (Cannabis and the Cancer Patient Experience: Moving from Patient Reported Outcomes to Translational Research): WHOI is working closely with the ICR on multiple projects to help jumpstart research into medical cannabis at a national level.
